Congratulations to our friend and colleague Georgina Gustin, who has been named the 2022 Writer of the Year by the North American Agricultural Journalists (NAAJ), for her work for Inside Climate News. Her December 2021 article, “The Amazon is the Planet’s Counterweight to Global Warming,” also won NAAJ’s first place feature writing award.

Of the article, the judges wrote, “Spectacular piece exploring the complex interplay of small- and large-scale agriculture, global agribusiness, politics, and Indigenous rights affecting the future of the Amazonian rain forest. Deeply and empathetically researched, this beautifully written story has the visceral impact of a documentary film about one of the most important issues affecting the future life on Earth.”

We agree and we couldn’t be happier for her. Georgina is not only an outstanding journalist, but she’s also a great sport and lots of fun, never deterred by insects, weather, muddy roads or long and bumpy car rides through the jungle. Way to go, Georgina!
